9 May, Europe Day

Borderline project - Activities:

1. A group of students from LMK, together with the Volunteers of PTPI - LMK have distributed flyers containing informations about Europe, and a few recommendations for the students in order to imporve their knowledge about EU and Romania's access into the European structures. (10 AM, Central Plaza of Vaslui). The LMK students supervised an interesting drawing contest among small children from the kindergartens)

2. LMK team has organized a presentation of the Importance of May 9 in the Romanian and European History, together with the presentation of an intersting movie dealing with the tolerance and comprehension issues, main values and concerns of the European Union (Chocolat, with Johnny Depp and Juliette Binoche). (1 PM, LMK conference room)

We appreciate the kind support of Mr. Aurel Zugravu, teacher of History at LMK, who made an interesting presentation about the importance of May 9, and the supervision of the County Department of Education for both activities.

We wish to thank Bianca CRISTEA, President of People To People International-LMK, for her contribution to the success of the activities, despite of her bad physical condition and Ms. Liliana CIOBANU, PTPI-LMK coordinator.

9 Mai, Europe Day, Ziua Europei

9 Mai este o data importanta atat pentru Europa cat si pentru Romania. Sa nu uitam ca pe data de 9 Mai 1877 s-a proclamat Independenta de Stat a Romaniei (prin declaratia lui Mihail Kogalniceanu, patronul spiritual al Liceului nostru).

De asemenea, pe 9 Mai 1945 s-a incheiat oficial cel de-al Doilea Razboi Mondial, prin capitularea Germaniei.

Tot pe 9 Mai, dar in 1950, Robert Schumann, ministrul de externe al Frantei, rostea celebra Declaratie prin care invita dusmanul istoric al tarii sale, Germania, sa i se alature in Comunitatea Carbunelui si Otelului, punand astfel bazele viitoarei Uniuni Europene.

Nu exista viitor fara istorie, si nu o spunem numai noi, o spun si studentii din Europa.

Cu speranta ca de la 1 Ianuarie 2007 vom face si noi parte oficial din marea familie europeana, sa nu uitam ca trebuie sa ne invatam istoria, sa ne pretuim valorile, sa ne apreciem cultura si sa ramanem, chiar europeni, noi insine.

Chernobil, 20 years after

The LMK Borderline team has done a small debate about the conditions and the consequences of the most importand and frightfull nuclear disaster in the world civil society after the Second World War.

12C (nature sciences) has released a scientific magazine. The magazine will be released among the project partners during the meeting in Poland, this May.

Ms. Daniela Diaconu supervised the scientific documentation.

The students were instructed to follow the TV Scientific Channels, in order to see some of the most important documentaries about Chernobil. The Romanian Channel who covered most of the day the event was Realitatea TV, and the Borderline group from 11C (nature sciences) followed the event in the Multi-Media Laboratory.

LMK Vaslui, ready to come to Poland

As decided during the previous international meeting of France (November, 2005), in May 2006, a small team of LMK representatives will participate at the second international reunion of the BORDERLINE Project, in Tarnow, Poland.

The project team designated Mr. Narcis Aprodu, English teacher, to manage the visit, together with Gheorghita Irimia (11D) and Anca Mihalache (12D).

The project team started a small contest among the participants, in order to design the Romanian presentation concerning the Romanian History, and we are preparing two scientific workpapers concerning the Cernobal nuclear disaster and the Litterature of the Borders.

1. Reaffirms that Romania's accession is a common objective of the Union and of Romania, making it possible, together with the accession of Bulgaria, to complete the fifth enlargement of the Union which began with the great liberation movement in central and eastern Europe;
2. Maintains that it wishes to see Romania and Bulgaria join the Union on 1 January 2007, in so far as the conditions laid down in the Treaty of Accession are fulfilled by each of those two countries;
3. Recalls the exchange of letters between the President of the European Parliament and the President of the Commission on the full association of the European Parliament with any consideration of activation of one of the safeguard clauses in the Treaty of Accession; notes that Parliament will take a position on these issues and especially the timing of accession, in the light of the state of implementation of the necessary reforms, in particular of the requirements of membership regarding the judiciary system and the fight against corruption, and on the basis of the Commission's detailed assessment of the situation next spring; therefore expects the Commission and Romania to work closely with Parliament in this regard;
4. Also expresses its wish that the accession of Romania and Bulgaria should take place in solidarity, while emphasising that the applications of both countries must ultimately be considered and evaluated on their own merits;
5. Points out that the reform effort that the Union has requested from Romania is in the interests of both sides, enabling Romania to benefit fully from the advantages of accession and ensuring that accession takes place in the best possible conditions;
6. Recognises Romania's significant contribution to the stability of the wider south-east European region and her continuing role in the promotion of regional security and prosperity;
7. Notes the assessment of Romania’s preparations for accession as set out in the Commission's progress report, and shares its conclusions;

„Pentru că suntem în Ziua Naţională, aş dori să fiu acela care recunoaşte şi menţionează public, nu numai într-un discurs politic, dar şi într-o intervenţie adresata Armatei Române, faptul că n-ar fi fost posibilă Marea Unire fără jertfa extraordinară a armatei române din primul război mondial. Efortul, sentimentul de dragoste de ţară, jertfa fiecăruia dintre militarii români în primul război mondial a fost unul din pilonii pe care oamenii politici au putut construi, alături de popor, Marea Unire.

Din acest motiv, cred că semnificaţia ceremoniei de astăzi este nu numai o semnificaţie constituţională şi de acoperire a prezenţei noastre în NATO, dar este şi o simbolistică legată de cei care s-au constituit într-un element decisiv, care au netezit drumul către Marea Unire prin uriaşa jertfă a militarilor români, a Armatei române în primul război mondial.

"Povestea asta care se repeta an de an vine din simplul fapt ca romanii nu se recunosc in ziua asta. Proclamata in graba acum 15 ani drept sarbatoare nationala, 1 Decembrie nu reprezinta pentru nimeni mai nimic. O data in istoria noastra si atat, e drept, nu lipsita de importanta. Dar de aici pana la atingerea a ceea ce Jung numea "inconstientul colectiv", e departe. impartasesc parerea distinsului istoric, Neagu Djuvara, ca 10 mai e mai potrivita pentru a fi ziua nationala a romanilor. S-ar face un pod peste timp, s-ar marca o continuitate necesara cu trecutul. Luna mai e si mai potrivita climateric. E cald, frumos, primavara. Lumea ar avea un cadru propice sa se bucure, sa iasa la iarba verde, sa sarbatoreasca. Frigul si ploaia de joi au tinut lumea acasa. In plus, semnificatia istorica e esentiala. La 10 mai 1866, printul Carol a ajuns la Bucuresti si a depus juramantul ca domnitor. La 10 mai 1881, Romania s-a declarat regat. Prin extensie, data de 10 mai 1877 (de fapt 9 mai) este ziua declararii independentei Romaniei. Amintesc ca domnia regelui Carol 1866/1914 a fost cea mai fericita perioada din istoria noastra. DECEMBER 1-ST, OPPINIONS

1. December 1-st represents for me a big celebration, Romanian people are more united and they try to revert to the past, in order to understand their future. (Andreea N.)
2. Every single Romanian should feel happy for being Romanian. (Fraga)
3. December 1-st is the national Day of Romania. In this day, I remember that I am Romanian and I just want to be proud of my country. I realize that I like it , because Romanians are kind, the girls are beautiful, the landscape is absolutely great, and here is my home, here is my heart, and I love Romania because I feel good here. I admit that I get angry when I see crimes happen, theft, corruption and bad habits. These things don’t make me proud at all, and I hope aur President will be able to eliminate all these bad things. Maybe we will be saved for being so lost. December 1-st means to me the hope for a better life. Maybe, when I will grow up, my thoughts will be different. (Daniela)
4. December 1-st means happiness and friendship, because I feel that I am part of a special culture, of a great nation with an important contribution to the international cultural heritage. (Marius)
5. I remenmber the suffering of all our ancesters. I don’t have particular feelings about this day, but that doesn’t mean that I don’t respect the celebration and I am not proud of my country, far from that… (Laura)
6. December 1-st is our National Day. It’s important to me, it makes me feel a true Romanian, because is a time to remember how our ancesters fought for our independence and freedom. I am proud to be their heir. (Adrian)

14. December 1-st means a fact of a great importance for the Romanian history. We should be proud of this day. When I think about December 1-st, I remember my history teacher and what she said to us: Not to know, not to learn, not to falsly respect and not to pretend that we fully understand what happened one hundred years ago. She said to us ti light a candle for the war heroes. For me, December 1-st is a cold freezing day and a little candle in my hand, bowing my heart down for a while, in front of an unknown hero of war, and I think life will go on, and he will be remembered, and we will be remembered remembering him…
24. We use to listen to our President’s speech every year, and we listen to our National Anthem. It’s a celebration, everybody should be happy.
25. When all our hearts will be once again one, I will be the happiest person in the world!
People are not impressed too much by this day and this makes me sad. We should prove that we are a great nation.
26. It’s a shame we don’t do anymore things to make us proud to be Romanians. It’s our National Day, once a year, and we have to do something great to honour this day.
I would like to honour my country more , I would like to feel Romanian feelings, I would like to know how?!
